Justice is at the very core of God’s nature, for his word declares “Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; therefore, he will rise up to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of Justice….” (Isaiah 30:18). Justice touches the heart of God for he desires justice for all his creation. God is the ultimate judge of all and he dispenses it with fairness. He despises unfair judges and warns sternly those who pervert justice “Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly”. (Deuteronomy 19:15)
Jesus Christ our Lord and savior advocated and dispensed justice during His ministry on earth. His mission statement in Luke Chapter 4:18 is a testament of his commitment to justice. We later on see him enabling a poor woman caught in adultery access to justice when faced with an unjust situation (John 8).
Access to justice is a fundamental right that should be guaranteed to every individual in society, regardless of their socio-economic background, race, gender, or any other personal characteristic. It forms the cornerstone of a fair and equitable legal system, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to seek redress, protect their rights, and receive a fair hearing.
Uganda Christian Lawyers Fraternity (UCLF) over the years has done a tremendous job in making it possible for many Ugandans to access justice. This has been made possible through legal aid services like legal representation, legal sensitization, mediation among many other interventions.
We are grateful to our funders, Baptist Mission Society UK (BMS) and Law Christian Fellowship UK (LCF) for their unwavering support over the years. They have enabled us to reach millions with justice and dignity. Appreciation also goes to European Union, Avocats Sans Frontieres (ASF), Oxfam, Office of the first Lady of Uganda, LASPNET, UNDP other organizations that have supported us from time to time.
I also thank our members for subscribing annually and for donating funds on top of their subscriptions so that the work of justice can continue uninterrupted. We are currently serving and appreciate our growing membership currently standing at 500 advocates and judicial officers. We invite more Christian lawyers to subscribe to this noble cause.
God bless you.
