📻 Spreading the Word: Legal Sensitisation on Religious Freedom Reaches Eastern Uganda
On Friday, September 27th, 2025, the Universal Christian Lawyers’ Fellowship (UCLF) embarked on a crucial mission to Eastern Uganda, spearheading a legal sensitisation drive focused on Religious Freedoms and Religious Persecution.
This vital activity is part of the ongoing Arise Africa Campaign Project, where UCLF is proudly partnering with Stretch for Hope Uganda (SHU) to foster a greater understanding of fundamental rights across the region.

On Air in Busoga: Educating Through Radio
To reach the widest possible audience, the UCLF team strategically chose a popular medium: the airwaves. The sensitisation took place on a high-impact talk show broadcast by Busoga One Radio 90.6 FM. This prominent station covers over ten districts in the Busoga region, ensuring the message reached thousands of listeners.
Key discussion points included:
- Defining Religious Freedom and highlighting its fundamental importance in a democratic society.
- Identifying the different forms of religious persecution and how citizens can recognise and address them.
- A detailed discussion of the laws regarding religious freedom in Uganda.
- The often-overlooked right of children to exercise their own right of belief.
Listener Engagement: Questions and Concerns
The talk show offered listeners a direct opportunity to call in and engage with the legal experts. The engagement was robust and insightful, revealing the community’s key concerns:
- Children’s Rights: Many listeners were keen to understand the nuances of children’s rights concerning religion—a topic clearly resonating within families and communities.
- The Rise of Cults: A significant number of callers highlighted the alarming rise of cults within the Busoga region and sought concrete guidance on addressing this worrying trend.
- Human Rights Abuse: Listeners asked for advice on how to handle incidences where certain religions abuse human rights, seeking legal and ethical counsel to protect vulnerable individuals.
A Successful Outreach
The overall sensitisation was deemed a great success. The UCLF team effectively clarified complex legal topics and directly engaged with the community’s most pressing concerns regarding faith and law. The positive reception culminated in an overwhelming request from the listeners for another follow-up talk show to delve even deeper into this critical subject.
UCLF and SHU remain committed to empowering communities through legal education as part of the Arise Africa Campaign. Stay tuned for updates on future sensitisation events!
