🤝 Empowered by Partnership: NRC Supports Legal Sensitisation for Refugees in Mukono-Seeta

Building on the success of earlier efforts, the UCLF team continued its critical work in legal empowerment, hosting a similar sensitisation session for Sudanese Refugees in Mukono-Seeta.

This vital outreach was made possible through the generous support and collaboration of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), demonstrating the power of partnership in delivering essential services to vulnerable communities. The NRC’s commitment to Information, Counselling, and Legal Assistance (ICLA) is instrumental in bridging the legal gaps faced by urban refugees.

Extending Legal Literacy

The session in Mukono-Seeta focused on the same critical theme: equipping the Sudanese refugee community with knowledge of Ugandan laws and practical guidance on how these laws apply to their lives within the country.

Key objectives of the sensitisation included:

  • Promoting Lawful Coexistence: Ensuring refugees and the host community understand their respective rights and responsibilities to maintain peace and order.
  • Navigating Bureaucracy: Providing clear information on documentation, registration processes, and accessing essential public services.
  • Protection and Rights: Clarifying the legal protections afforded to refugees under national and international law.

Addressing Urban Refugee Challenges

As an urban area near the capital, Mukono-Seeta hosts a significant number of self-settled refugees who often rely on their own wits and community networks for survival. Legal knowledge is a primary tool for protection in these settings, helping refugees secure housing, access livelihoods, and resolve disputes without falling victim to exploitation or rights violations.

UCLF deeply appreciates the trust and cooperation of the Sudanese refugee leaders and the Mukono community that made this session highly interactive and successful.

We extend our profound thanks to the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) for sponsoring this crucial sensitisation, underscoring their commitment to ensuring urban refugees can know, claim, and exercise their rights.
