🌍 Bridging Legal Gaps: Sensitisation for Sudanese Refugees in Bombo by NRC

On Tuesday, October 21st, 2025, a joint effort was launched to empower Sudanese refugees residing in Bombo with crucial knowledge about the law.

The UCLF legal team, comprising Twinomujuni Anania, Michelle Kahororo, and M&E Officer Innocent Tibanyendera, collaborated with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) and the Refugee Law Project to conduct a vital legal sensitisation session.

A Focused Dialogue

The session brought together an important cross-section of the community, including:

  • The Sudanese refugees living in the Bombo area.
  • The officially recognised Refugee Community Leaders.
  • The Local Leaders of Bombo (representing the host community).

Understanding Ugandan Laws

The primary focus of the sensitisation was to educate both the refugees and the host community about Ugandan laws and, critically, how these laws apply to refugees living within the country.

Topics covered would have provided practical, applicable knowledge, helping refugees to:

  • Understand their rights and obligations while residing in Uganda.
  • Navigate local legal and administrative systems effectively.
  • Foster peaceful and lawful coexistence with the host community.

This type of outreach is fundamental to ensuring the protection and dignity of refugees, enabling them to lead stable lives while adhering to national regulations.

Collaboration for Impact

UCLF is proud to partner with esteemed organizations like the NRC and the Refugee Law Project. Such collaborations are essential for delivering comprehensive and effective legal aid services to vulnerable populations, including those displaced by conflict.

This session reinforces UCLF’s commitment to extending legal literacy and access to justice across all communities in Uganda.
